Urban Trash

You use it; you dispose of it, but then what happens? Moving anywhere, it is imperative to understand the operations involving trash collection, recycling, and more. Here you will learn how it all works from weekly trash removal to large item pick-up, and beyond. Trash Collection for Columbus is managed by the Department of Public Service, Division of Refuse Collection.

First things first, when does your weekly trash get picked up in your particular neighborhood? Click here and enter your address to determine which day your trash will be collected. Most of your household items may be placed in city receptacles, but must be secured and sealed in a bag prior; no trash placed around the bins will be collected (note: placing trash around bins is considered littering by city standard). Bins must be placed at the designated pick up point they day of by 6:00 a.m., but no more than 12 hours prior to pick up, and must be removed within 24 hours of pick up. Household items that are too large to fit in trash bins are considered bulk items. Bulk collection items may be collected for free by the city, but must be scheduled in advance. Click here to schedule a bulk item pick up.
